Decluttering. You know...that 12 letter word.
No matter how you do this, its hard!
The photo above is my home. It was taken after I staged it to sell a couple years back. I loved my home so much after decluttering that I wan't as eager to sell anymore. We did go under contract but the buyers withdrew. We weren't sad at all. We decided to stay.
One problem...when I "decluttered." I did it quickly and in a way that wasn't efficient. At all. I threw everything into boxes and put them in the garage.
I then had to haul it all back in! And now, this week, my daughters have helped me declutter again. For real this time....Ughhhhhh! They dumped out containers, boxes, drawers and cupboards. I was only allowed to have one of something and made some hard choices!!
I only cried once.
Then it hit me...as hard as it was getting rid of things, it didn't come close to how it felt to live in a cluttered home. At that point, I realized that my tears were cleansing. Literally.
I'm looking forward to living in a staged home. One that doesn't have boxes jam packed in the garage.
No matter if you're thinking about selling or not, decluttering is cleansing. It'll create white space not only on your walls, cuboards and drawers but in your mind.
Priceless.
